Happy Birthday Getwed Style! – Edmonton Corporate Photography

It’s not every day a person turns 50.  It’s also not every day a person turns 50 and gets such a FANTASTIC birthday party thrown for them!  Renée Chan from getwed (wedding planning) was the brain child behind the details of this event and an event it was!  From the football stadium birthday cake to the chocolate covered strawberry centerpieces coming out of footballs to the awesome retro football game style concession stand and the awesome balloon goal post every single detail was looked after.  When I turn 50 if I have half the party thrown for me as getwed put on for Charlie, I’ll know I’ve done something right!

Cheerific Calendar – Edmonton Corporate Photographer

Krister and I had a few unique photo sessions this year while we created photographs for Cheerific’s 2010 calendar!  The calendar is hit, and if you want to get your hand on one of them click here!

For photographers: These photographs were taken in a number of photo shoots, not all in one day.  We were surprised how different it was lighting two people doing a lift rather than groups on the same level.  Rather than use our tried and tested lighting system for these photographs, we found we needed double the amount of lighting, one for the top person and one for the bottom.  As you can’t exactly predict where the person on top will end up, the lighting needed to be tweaked very quickly as soon as they were up in the lift.

What was funny while editing these photographs for the calendar was that some of our favorite shots didn’t make the cut!  Cheer is so much about form and position, that the “good” photos were selected based on where the cheerleaders legs, feet, arms were first and foremost.  Photographing for this calendar was a blast, and having a subject full of endless energy was awesome!

Nuance Occasions Decor – Edmonton Wedding Photographers

I am so excited to share these reception detail photographs!  Jolyn from Nuance Occasions asked me to take a few detail photographs for her company of the awesome decor she came up with for her New Year’s Eve wedding at the TransAlta Art Barns in Edmonton.  I was never in a position to have a full hour to photograph details before, and details are some of my favorite things to photograph!  The place looked stunning.  I absolutely loved the feathers, and the white against the black room.

The lighting that the TransAlta Art Barns have is by far better than anything I’ve seen in any other Edmonton venues.  The lighting guru took me upstairs and I walked across a net with fairly large holes, bouncing up and down like a trampoline.  This is the first time I became afraid of heights!  I was able to walk across the glass floor in the CN Tower, but this was more scary than that :).  I laid down on the netting and the first thing I noticed was how the tables and chairs looked like beautiful flowers from far up.  The first purposefully out of focus photograph was taken to bring the viewer’s attention to the shape and colors, not the detail per se.

I loved the feather ideas, and the incorporation of the falling orchids and beautiful crystal pieces.  The place looked modern and chic and simply beautiful.  Jolyn, you did an amazing job!  I’m sure the couple was blown away..

Note to photographers:  If you shoot a gig at the TransAlta Art Barns, I strongly recommend bringing a tripod as well as multiple off-camera flashes for the most beautiful results.
